Ingredients:
English Breakfast Tea – The steady, bitter undertone of daily existence. It speaks to routine, melancholy, and the heavy march of thought.
Skullcap – A calming ally for anxious minds and sleepless hearts — for when the mind is a storm in a jar.
Vervain – The poet’s protector. For melancholy, nervous exhaustion, and spiritual sensitivity. This is the herb of haunted thresholds and words unspoken.
Chamomile – Gentle and golden, cradling the frightened child inside. It softens sorrow, eases inner tension, and brings dreams closer.
Cornflower – The blue of bruised beauty. For third-eye clarity, grief rituals, and Plath’s icy lyricism. A mourning flower in myth and meadow.
Brewing Instructions:
-
Mix all ingredients in a bowl or jar. Store in a cool, dark place in an airtight container.
-
To brew, use 1 heaping teaspoon per cup of hot water (about 8 oz).
-
Steep for 4–5 minutes, covered, in water just below boiling (around 200°F / 93°C).
-
Strain and serve hot. Optional: Add a touch of honey or maple syrup for sweetness — or drink it bare, as Plath might’ve preferred.
Tasty Notes:
Earthy and floral, with a bitter edge softened by chamomile’s golden hush. The cornflower floats like lost thoughts, softening the blackness of the brew with blue.
Best Enjoyed When:
-
When you feel too much and not enough.
-
While rereading a line of your own writing that frightens you with its honesty.
-
In the hour before sleep, when your ghosts are most talkative..
Best Served:
Steeped long and dark. Serve in a teacup you wouldn’t mind breaking. Sip in silence. A single cornflower petal should float on the surface. Whisper your name into the steam.
