Hardie Hill: A tributetea to Shirley Hardie Jackson (Tea/Giftset)

Looks cozy. Tastes suspicious. Finishes like a cold breath on the back of your neck. This tea arrives on a doily, smiles sweetly, and whispers something you didn’t want to hear. It’s warm, fragrant, and just a touch... cursed.
Ingredients:
Peach Black Tea – Pleasant. Charming. Practically innocent. The kind of tea you serve to guests before deciding their fate.
Yarrow – Bitter and bold, an herb for second sight and standing just outside the circle.
Rosehips – Tart, red, and slightly too vibrant. Like a bloom on the wrong bush.
Lavender – Gentle on the surface, eerie when you start paying attention.
Mugwort – Not for flavor—oh no. For dreams, thresholds, and finding locked doors that weren’t locked yesterday.
Brewing Instructions:
Steep Time: 5–6 minutes (any longer, and the shadows start to talk).
Cover while steeping: Keeps in the volatile oils... and whatever else stirs.
Strain well. Mugwort and rosehips can get bold if left unattended.
Optional Additions:
A drop of honey, but only if you're feeling brave.
A splash of cream, if you'd like to pretend everything’s fine.
Tasty Notes:
First Sip: A peachy welcome, warm and sweet. It wants you to feel safe.
Middle: Rosehips and yarrow rise—bright and bitter, unsettlingly honest.
Finish: Mugwort and lavender linger like a scent you can’t place but swear you’ve smelled in a memory that isn’t yours.
Best Enjoyed When:
-
When you feel too much and not enough.
-
While rereading a line of your own writing that frightens you with its honesty.
-
In the hour before sleep, when your ghosts are most talkative..
Best Served:
-
During twilight, when the light feels wrong in the living room.
-
In a tidy kitchen with an open window that never used to be there.
-
While rereading We Have Always Lived in the Castle and wondering which sibling you are.
-
After politely declining an invitation... and finding the invitation back on your doorstep.
For when the kettle whistles a little too long, and the house has opinions.
